About Us

Founded in 2011, Eco-Capital Advisors invests in and develops stream and wetland mitigation and endangered species habitat conservation projects across the US. ECA’s projects provide solutions to our customers through the sale of mitigation credits generated from high-quality ecological restoration projects.

The principals of ECA have development, private equity investment and institutional asset management experience in well over 100 discrete ecosystem services projects located from coast to coast, including a current portfolio of 15 active projects located around the US. Charlie Kauss

Charlie Kauss is a principal with Eco-Capital Advisors. In his role, Mr. Kauss is responsible for sourcing and evaluating investment opportunities, deal structuring, and financial underwriting. Mr. Kauss began his career as an investment banking analyst with SunTrust Robinson Humphrey before moving on to work as an acquisition analyst for the real estate investment firm Jamestown. Kauss transitioned to an Atlanta investment management firm with the largest pool of private equity dollars focused on wetland mitigation and habitat conservation projects in the U.S. In his role, he was responsible for sourcing and evaluating investment opportunities, negotiating joint ventures, valuation and quantitative analytics and operation of fund assets for a $250 million private equity fund. He developed a proprietary discounted cash flow model for the acquisition, valuation and on-going asset management of the fund’s mitigation and conservation banking portfolio and was instrumental in the development of a FAS 141 compliance valuation policy employed in investor reporting. Mr. Kauss has a B.B.A. in Finance, Investments and Banking from the University of Wisconsin – Madison. Mr. Kauss has been a Trustee of the Weber School since 2016, and acts as chair of the finance committee on the Camp Judaea Board of Directors.

David Jacobson

David Jacobson is a principal with Eco-Capital Advisors, with over 11 years of institutional experience in the ecological investment industry. In his role, Mr. Jacobson is responsible for sourcing and evaluating investment opportunities, financial underwriting, and asset valuation. Mr. Jacobson began his career with PricewaterhouseCoopers in the Real Estate Business Advisory Services group. During his tenure with the firm, he was involved in consulting engagements that focused on the review of real estate operating performance, market and feasibility studies, real estate transaction due diligence and the facilitation of loan underwriting for securitization and ratings evaluation. He went on to spend five years in the gaming and hospitality industry. Prior to joining Vega, Jacobson was a portfolio manager of environmental investments for an Atlanta-based investment management firm where he focused on the underwriting and financial analysis of prospective investments. Mr. Jacobson has a B.S. in Finance with a concentration in Real Estate from Indiana University.

Charles Thompson

Charlie Thompson is a principal with Eco-Capital Advisors, with over 13 years of institutional investment experience in ecoservices markets. In his role, Mr. Thompson is responsible for sourcing and evaluating investment opportunities, joint venture structuring, executing transactions and asset management. Mr. Thompson began his career as an attorney in the Financial Transactions Practice Group of King & Spalding LLP in Atlanta. Thompson went on to work in project management and capital markets at an office and hotel development and investment company, followed by four years at an Atlanta investment management firm focused on wetland mitigation and habitat conservation projects, where he served as director and portfolio manager with day-to-day management responsibility for over $300MM of committed capital. Mr. Thompson has an AB in Political Science, JD and M.B.A. from the University of Georgia. He currently serves as Acting Chairman of Invest Georgia, a $50MM State of Georgia backed venture capital fund of funds, as a member of the UGA Law School Board, is a member of the State Bar of Georgia, is a former board member of the Ecological Restoration Business Association (formerly the National Mitigation Banking Association), and was a founding board member of the Georgia Environmental Restoration Association.

Brian Normanly

Brian Normanly is a principal with Eco-Capital Advisors and oversees all project management for Eco-Capital’s investment portfolio. He began his career as a consultant where he assisted public and private-sector clients obtain Clean Water Act Section 404 permits. Over the past 12 years, Brian has focused exclusively on environmental markets. In his current role, Brian works extensively with resource agencies, local governments, private landowners, the development community, and conservation groups to identify market opportunities and develop ecologically sustainable projects that generate attractive returns. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Ecology from the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill and a Master of Science degree in Forest Hydrology from the University of Georgia’s Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources. Brian is certified as a Professional Wetland Scientist by the Society of Wetland Scientist and a Certified Ecologist by the Ecological Society of America. He is a former board member of the Ecological Restoration Business Association (formerly the National Mitigation Banking Association), former co-chair of the Ecological & Environmental Mitigation Banking Seminar, and former treasurer of the Georgia Environmental Restoration Association.

Allison Katz

Allison Katz is Vice President of Transactions with Eco-Capital. Ms. Katz is experienced in both the business and legal aspects of managing conservation and mitigation banks. In her role at Eco-Capital, Ms. Katz researches new prospective projects, processes asset acquisitions and collaborates with third-party operators. Ms. Katz began her career as a Commercial Real Estate Paralegal with Seyfarth Shaw LLP. During her time at Seyfarth Shaw she managed complex commercial real estate transactions for a large institutional lender. She then went on to join an Atlanta-based investment management firm as the transaction manager for their environmental investments. As the transaction manager, she was responsible for overseeing the real estate transactions for the environmental investments. Prior to joining Vega, Allison was the Assistant Vice President of Natural Resources Investments at Domain Capital Group. While at Domain, she co-managed the environmental asset portfolios, working closely with third-party operating partners, brokers and outside counsel to oversee the daily operations and disposition of the assets. Ms. Katz received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Florida State University, a Paralegal Certification from Emory University, and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Georgia.

George Adams

George Adams is a Senior Associate with Eco-Capital Advisors. In his role, Mr. Adams is responsible for sourcing, underwriting and evaluating investment opportunities. Mr. Adams began his career with RCG Ventures, an Atlanta-based real estate private equity firm where he focused on acquisitions and asset management for a $2B nationwide retail portfolio. Most recently, Mr. Adams worked in acquisitions at Stockbridge Capital Group where he focused on the execution of acquisition and development transactions across all major property types totaling more than $750M. Mr. Adams has a B.B.A in Finance from the University of Georgia. He is also a licensed Real Estate Salesperson in Georgia.
